The six family heads that makes Ikot Abia Idem, a community in Ikot Ekpene LGA, Akwa Ibom State, have called on the Paramount Ruler, His Royal Majesty, Akuku Okon Udo Ukut, to as a matter of necessity and the tradition of their fore-fathers do the right thing in the ongoing village head tussle that has engulfed the community since the demised of the former Paramount Ruler and the community head, Akuku Asiak, who passed on last year.  Speaking to your Ikot Ekpene Plaza News and your Naija friendly platform, FriendOfNaija independently yesterday, the respective family heads expressed disappointment over the high handedness and the meddlesomeness of the Paramount Ruler in what they described as “their own thing” and called on him to listen to collective voice and will of the people by doing the right thing.

It should be remembered that your Naija Friendly platform, FriendsOfNaija and Ikot Ekpene Plaza News yesterday, Monday, filed in a report of an ongoing disagreement between Ikot Abia Idem community and the Paramount Ruler over what they term as suspicious fowl play by His Royal Majesty, the Paramount ruler to circumvent the collective will of the people over whom they have chosen and prefer to be their next village head in the person of Engineer (Surveyor) David Esiene, as against the son of the late Paramount Ruler, Akuku Asiak, whom they said is never known by the community to be interest or even in the equation, who is now suddenly being preferred by the Paramount Ruler.

Speaking to the various blocks that makes the community, from the youth, women, men and the entire six families of the community, everyone towed the same line, unanimously rejecting the candidate of the Paramount Ruler, even as they insists it has never been the prerogative of the Paramount Ruler nor any government official for that matter to decide who heads their village, but that of the six family heads. The people also insisted that the exercise of determining who heads their community from time immemorial, as the oldest man in the community, Pa Sunday Uboh, who is 98 years affirmed, has always been done at their village council hall, call Awa’n Ukpong and anything contrary would amount to abomination.
