The Akwa Ibom state’s chapter of the Nigerian Good Governance Group, (NGGG), would be staging a good governance colloquium to discussed and create understanding that awakens sense of responsibility on what should constitute good governance in our society. Letting the cat out of the bag at their office, at Udo Umana Street, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital yesterday, 24th, October, the good governance group’s enlarged State Executives’ emergency meeting agreed that the colloquium becomes necessary, as it would afford the group the opportunity to carry out the lawfully spelled out functions of the group and why she exist.

The excos argued that though democracy and the processes as it concerns the upcoming 2019 election in the state have witnessed some improvement and less violence, but some practices and the understanding of acceptable norms is far from being realized. The NGGG resolved that the colloquium would offer the opportunity for interactions, exchange of ideas, knowledge and commitment to deliver on the objectives of good governance to the down trodden for a saner society. The democratic pressure group assured that the date for the colloquium would be communicated soon.

The Akwa Ibom state chapter of the Nigerian Good Governance Group, (NGGG), since her inauguration over a year ago in the state has successfully and completely established structures in all the thirty one chapters and three hundred and twenty nine wards of the state. The State structure which consists of the state Chairman and his state excos, includes the three Senatorial District Chairmen and each local government is manned by a Chapter Chairman also with its own excos, down to the wards with same structure on that hierarchy.

The Akwa Ibom state’s Chapter of the NGGG has successfully registered and currently boasts of over 300 members in each Ward just within the last one year of her coming to the state. And the dream is to keep up with the campaign of good governance until everyone is enlisted and become a member and an ambassador of good governance, and then shall we attend the society of our dream.

NGGG, Akwa Ibom State chapter under the leadership of Hon. (Dcn.) Emmanuel Owokere has participated in the just concluded Akwa Ibom State, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Stakeholders Forum and made contributions and inputs. The Group is currently partnering and work with the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), the Police, the DSS and the Civil defense in various capacity to deliver on good governance and to fight corruption.

The colloquium is going to live up to the billing and at the end, Akwa Ibom would be better for it.
